The village of Kilkhampton is just a few minutes’ walk from the lodge and has a dog-friendly pub (The London Inn), butchers, Co-op with cashpoint, Spar, Ape Pizza, a Chinese takeaway just north of the village, and a few other local shops.
In nearby Bude, you’ll find a large Morrisons (with cashpoint) and petrol station, Sainsbury’s, Lidl and a Co-op (open until late).

One of the most scenic beaches near Bude, with dramatic cliffs and wide sandy stretches at low tide. Perfect for long coastal walks and exploring rock pools. There is also a café/shop and seasonal surf hire available.

A quieter beach next to Sandymouth, popular with dog walkers looking for space and sea views. It feels more tucked away and peaceful.

A favourite with regular visitors, Northcott offers a wide sandy beach at low tide and stunning cliff views. Ideal for relaxed dog walks away from the busier central beaches.

A large sandy beach ideal for long shoreline walks. There is a free car park up the hill, making it a convenient option for visitors with dogs.

Located in Bude itself, Summerleaze has a designated dog-friendly section all year round. It’s close to the town centre, cafés and the sea pool, making it ideal for combining a beach walk with lunch in town.

Best for: A beach walk followed by a stroll into Bude.
Sea Coombe is ideally located for exploring these dog-friendly beaches, offering a peaceful coastal base near Bude for couples and their dogs.

Sea Coombe is less than a 10-minute drive from Sandymouth Beach, which is dog friendly all year round and has many rock pools. There is a café/shop with surfboard, bodyboard and wetsuit hire, and surf lessons are available in summer. At low tide it is possible to walk along the beach towards Northcott and Bude.

Bude has a sea pool, canal, river, interesting independent shops and excellent pubs and cafés. There’s a cinema, summer craft and artisan markets, pleasant gardens, nature reserves, numerous sports and activities, an indoor pool and ten-pin bowling, Segway tours, and a traffic-free cycle way (bike hire available).
The surrounding area offers spectacular cliffs, wonderful walks along the South West Coast Path and wildlife in abundance — perfect for those looking for a relaxing coastal break.

Bude Canal – Boat hire, fishing and feeding the ducks. Just a short walk from Bude town centre and Summerleaze Beach.

Tintagel, Boscastle and Port Isaac are only a short drive away. Padstow, Newquay and St Ives are all within easy reach.
